Dallas Cowboys Better Pray For Tony Romo To Return Soon
If you haven’t heard by now, Tony Romo sat out as the Dallas Cowboys fell to the Arizona Cardinals, 28-17. The quarterback was inactive due to two transverse process fractures in his back.
Now, if you haven’t heard about that, please crawl out from the rock you live under and find a Wi-Fi connection. Between Romo and LeBron James filling up ESPN, I had forgotten there were hundreds of other athletes in professional sports.
Anyway, it has been said that the latest back injury to Jerry Jones’ prized possession has nothing to do with the disc surgery Romo had last December. It has also been said that no further damage can be done. As far as I’m concerned, Dallas, Jones and Jason Garrett should be worried sick and the fans should be worried about another season gone sour. Jones should be worried that he is going to look like a fool for another season and Garrett should be worried for his job, obviously.
Even if it is a small fracture in some tiny bone, back injuries should always be taken seriously, especially in the NFL. We, as humans, know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the complex design of the human back. One thing I know for certain is that Brandon Weeden will not lead the Cowboys to the postseason in Romo’s absence.
Luckily, Dallas has some time to breathe and let Romo heal. The team heads to London to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars and then has a much-needed bye week. After the bye, they face a short week with a Sunday night game at the New York Giants followed by a Thanksgiving showdown with the NFC-leading Philadelphia Eagles.
If I’m Jones — because we all know he is really the head coach and Garrett is a puppet — I would sit Romo until after the bye week and give his back as much rest as possible without losing grip on the season. Let those fractures heal and bring him back for the Giants.
The remainder of the season will not be easy as the Cowboys face the Eagles twice, visit the Giants and Chicago Bears and play host to the Indianapolis Colts. Make sure Romo is fully healed, because back injuries are nothing to mess with. There’s no doubt Dallas and Jones need their quarterback.
