In the last meeting between the two teams, the Atlanta Falcons destroyed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a Thursday night beat down. They got off to an early lead, looking nearly unstoppable on offense and on special teams. However, both teams have struggled throughout the season, with only three wins combined and coaches that might both be on the hot seat.
The Falcons have had their fair share of injuries on the offensive line, which has limited what their offense can do. They have tried to get the ball out of Matt Ryan’s hands quickly, and are still averaging a decent amount of yards through the air, but have struggled immensely in the running game. They have failed to close out close games, and do not resemble the playoff team that they once were.
Defensively, they do not generate enough of a pass rush, which puts a lot of pressure on their secondary. Luckily for them, they will not be going up against the best of offenses this week.
The Buccaneers have not had anyone step up and lead the team from the quarterback position. There are solid weapons, especially in the receiving corps, but the team just has not been able to produce on offense. They have had trouble on the offensive line, leading to one of the worst offenses in the league.
Their defense was supposed to be sneaky good this year, but have failed to grasp the defensive scheme that coach Lovie Smith wishes to run. They have talented players on that side of the ball, but need to put it together as a team.
Heading into the season, this matchup looked like it might have playoff implications, but now both teams are fighting to save their coaches’ jobs. They can still make a late push to give themselves confidence, but it is not looking good either way. Atlanta is the more talented team and should be able to come away with the victory, although it will not be as easy as last time.
Final score prediction: Falcons 31, Buccaneers 20
