If there’s one thing that the Seattle Seahawks (4-3) and the New York Giants (3-5) have in common, it’s that both teams have shown to be fairly inconsistent on a week-to-week basis. The two teams will meet in Seattle on Sunday in a game that may help us learn more about each team’s identity, or just further confuse us.
Last week, the Oakland Raiders (the NFL‘s only winless team) took the Seahawks down to the wire in a game that surprised a lot of people. The Seahawks ended up escaping with a win, but they didn’t look like the Seahawks of old in the process. The Giants, meanwhile, lost their third straight when they gave up 40 points to the Indianapolis Colts. After starting the season 3-2, the Giants have spiraled downward, and the loss of wide receiver Victor Cruz during that stretch has not helped their cause.
The Giants have to worry about this game given that they’re just 1-3 on the road this year and Seattle has one of, if not the best team in the NFL in terms of taking advantage of playing at home. However, it’s clear that Seattle has hit some bumps in the road on and off the field so far this season. The departure of wide receiver Percy Harvin left Seattle without one of their more versatile weapons, and rumored locker room issues have been somewhat of a distraction.
Seattle’s last three games have been decided by 12 total points, and allowing a team like the Giants to hang around until late may result in the Seahawks suffering a bad loss on Sunday. Despite losing Cruz to injury earlier in the season, the Giants have enjoyed the play of rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham totaled 156 receiving yards in Week 9 against the Colts and has three touchdowns on the season. Without Cruz, the Giants will look for Beckham to carry some of the load as the season goes on.
This is a game Seattle should win, but their recent performances suggest that they’re not exactly favored to pick up any easy wins. I’d go as far as to say they should be on upset alert this week and could even see the Giants pull off a huge road win.
