After a Week 9 bye, the Tennessee Titans will visit M&T Bank Stadium for a Week 10 date with the Baltimore Ravens. Both teams enter the contest riding two-game losing skids and are seeking wins for completely different reasons.
The Titans are hoping for quality performances out of their four starting rookies as they continue to build for the future while the Ravens are looking to keep pace in the playoff hunt. This young Titans team, now led by rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger, is facing one huge obstacle — M&T Bank Stadium.
Since Joe Flacco and John Harbaugh joined the Ravens in 2008, Baltimore is 42-10 at home. Since losing to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, the Ravens have won their last three home games by an average of 23 points, though their opponents in those games were a Week 2 Pittsburgh Steelers squad, the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Falcons, neither of which have been very impressive this season. However, the Titans have been a mediocre team as well, and it looks like the Ravens are primed for another home blowout.
If the Titans are to challenge the Ravens, they will need to keep a balanced rushing attack and protect Mettenberger. The run has been good to the Titans this season, as they average 4.4 yards per carry and have only had 10 rushes go for negative yardage, an NFL best. The Baltimore secondary is by far the most vulnerable unit on the team, and the Titans can surely find success through the air if they can protect Mettenberger from the Ravens’ vaunted front seven.
Baltimore will want to establish the run early against a defense that gives up 134.8 rushing yards per game. Justin Forsett, who averages a league-best 5.4 yards per carry, will be up for the task as he continues to be a pleasant surprise for the Ravens this season. Success on the ground will open up opportunities for Flacco in the play-action passing game, where he looks to utilize one of the best deep-balls in the league.
This game appears to have a recipe for a blowout, and that’s what fans should expect to see on Sunday. The Titans will meet a solid Baltimore club out to prove a point at home, which is exactly what’s going to happen.
Prediction: Ravens 31-Titans 10
