The Tennessee Titans travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens Sunday, and their key to success will be rookie QB Zach Mettenberger‘s performance. The Baltimore Ravens have a very stingy run defense, so I don’t foresee the Titans being able to do much on the ground. Therefore, all eyes will be on Mettenberger and his ability to make plays through the air.
Prior to the Titans’ bye last week, Mettenberger started his first NFL game Week 8 against the Houston Texans. The rookie played rather well, throwing for 299 yards and two touchdowns, with a respectable 93.4 passer rating. He will need to enter M&T Bank Stadium with a lot of confidence to take on a Ravens defense that will look to use the young QB’s inexperience to their advantage.
It’s no secret that the Ravens’ defense likes to apply pressure to the opposing quarterback. Outside linebacker, Elvis Dumervil is currently fifth in the league in sacks, with eight on the season. And with Terrell Suggs on the other side, Mettenberger should be wary. If he can escape the pressure and display some accuracy, he could have some success in this game.
Judging by the way the Ravens’ secondary has been playing lately, it will be up to Mettenberger to exploit their weaknesses and make big plays. This is especially true since the Titans’ running game doesn’t have a favorable matchup. If he’s able to do this, the Titans have a chance of coming out of Baltimore with an unexpected victory.
