The Buffalo Bills have a big task ahead of them when they take on the Miami Dolphins in the nationally-televised Thursday night broadcast.
To say the Bills need this game is an understatement. The Bills must win to keep their wild-card hopes alive in the AFC East. A win by Buffalo, plus a loss by the New England Patriots, would give the Bills a 6-4 record and put the team one game back in the division.
In short, the Bills would still have a realistic shot at a division title. That’s why WR Sammy Watkins must have a really good game for Buffalo to have a chance.
Watkins had a breakout game in Week 2 of the regular season, as he caught eight passes for 117 yards and scored a touchdown in Buffalo’s 29-10 win. This proves Watkins can work around the Miami pass defense, although the Dolphins are sure to target Watkins after watching what he has done recently.
Watkins had 122 yards against the Minnesota Vikings and followed up with a 157-yard performance against the New York Jets. Watkins has two-thirds of his offense against three teams, and that doesn’t bode well. Don’t get me wrong, Watkins is a great receiver. However, he must be more consistent on a weekly basis.
This is a great place to start. If Buffalo wins on Thursday, it will have swept the season series against the Dolphins. That will be very important if the Bills are to make postseason play, as they would own the tiebreaker against Miami.
Watkins is a fantastic receiver, and he has shown signs of clicking with quarterback Kyle Orton after early success with E.J. Manuel. If Watkins and Orton can click like this against the Dolphins, the sky’s the limit.
