The Washington Redskins are a terrible football team that seems to get worse when highly hyped quarterback Robert Griffin III is under center. For that reason, Griffin comparing himself to the other elite signal callers in the league while also putting his team down is about as ridiculous as it gets.
After the team’s latest loss against the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Redskins have nothing to look forward to in 2014. To make matters worse, Griffin is not accelerating as a playmaker, and his latest comments prove just how delirious he is about where he stands in the NFL.
“If you want to look at the good teams in this league and the great quarterbacks, the Peytons and the Aaron Rodgers, those guys don’t play well if their guys don’t play well,” Griffin said after the 27-7 defeat, according to Sporting News.
Yes, RGIII, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers do play well “if their guys don’t play well.” That is why they are considered to be two of the greatest quarterbacks in the game, if not all time. That is why their teammates respect them to the fullest extent and will follow them into battle no matter the circumstances. That is why you will never amount to anything great and your teammates will watch you fall on your back 10 times before considering picking you up.
Rodgers and Manning do things no other quarterback can do because their astounding play raises the level of the people around them. Their teammates want to play better to match their intensity. More importantly, they never throw a teammate under the bus in an attempt to show they are better than what we all know to be true. Sure, criticism will be thrown around, but as the leaders of their respective team, they have the freedom to do that.
During his press conference, Griffin proved that he does not have the necessary skills to improve the level of play of his teammates, which means the Redskins have no shot with him as their starting quarterback. Even worse, he is quickly establishing that he cannot be the vocal leader Washington needs him to be.
There is no denying this year has been a disaster for the Redskins. With the season lost, the players must ensure their actions do not derail what could be a successful 2015.
