Coming into Week 12 of the college football season, Stanford offensive tackle Andrus Peat was considered one of the top draft-eligible players at his position. After the Cardinal’s 20-17 double overtime loss at the hands of Utah, Peat’s stock has taken a significant hit.
In a much anticipated matchup against one of the premier pass rushers in college football in Utah’s Nate Orchard, Peat really struggled. Orchard beat Peat consistently throughout the game en route to a career night in which he recorded 10 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble. The speed of Orchard off the edge caused problems for Peat all game long.
Peat is a massive offensive tackle prospect at 6-foot-7, 312 pounds who is a solid run blocker and excels at pass protection. He is competing with Texas A&M OT Cedric Ogbuehi, Iowa OT Brandon Scherff, and LSU OT La’el Collins to be the first offensive tackle taken in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Match-ups featuring two future NFL players are always a good measuring stick for scouts, and this time Orchard got the best of Peat. While this performance is unlikely to drop Peat out of first-round consideration, it is safe to say he won’t be the first offensive tackle taken in the draft.
