On paper it seems as though the matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants should be a blowout in favor of Dallas. But as we know games in the NFL are not played on paper, especially rivalry games.

The Cowboys are coming off a bye week and enter this game 7-3, tied with the Philadelphia Eagles for first place in the NFC East. They cannot afford to lose games to anyone at this point if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive, especially a bad team like the Giants.

If the season were to end today, both the Cowboys and the Eagles would be in the playoffs, one as a Wild Card, but the NFC is so strong this year that winning the division is of paramount importance. For that reason the Cowboys should be extremely motivated to play in this game and demolish their rivals from New York.

The key will be DeMarco Murray, who leads the league in rushing yards entering this week. The Giants were gashed on the ground two weeks ago by Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle Seahawks, and while they performed better against the San Francisco 49ers last week, they still allowed almost 150 yards rushing. On the season the Giants are last in the league in opponent rush yards per game.

This game for the Giants is all about pride. Under head coach Tom Coughlin, the Giants have been known to always put forward their best effort, and fans should expect nothing less this week. Two weeks ago the defense was horrendous, but they improved last week. This past week the offense was awful, including five Eli Manning interceptions, but odds are that won’t happen again.

The Giants and Cowboys typically play close games, and being that this one is in New York it should be no different this time. Right now the Cowboys are clearly the better team and they should win this game, but expect it to be a close one in primetime on Sunday night.

Final score: Cowboys 27, Giants 24
