The Houston Texans were able to get a huge victory last weekend without their star running back Arian Foster. His replacement, Alfred Blue, had an impressive game including over 150 yards rushing on almost 40 total touches. But Foster is a unique running back in the league, and when he is on the field, it greatly improves the offense. Against a very good Cincinnati Bengals team, Foster will need to be healthy in order for the Texans to win.
When Foster has been healthy this season, he has been one of the best running backs in the league. He is averaging over 100 yards rushing per game despite one really bad running game, and has 10 total touchdowns. He is a huge part of a run-oriented offense that tries to control the clock and pound teams on the ground.
Foster can single-handedly carry an offense, and has rare attributes that few possess. His ability to make one cut and take it all the way is unrivaled in the league, and he has excellent vision. He combines power and speed, making it extremely difficult to bring him down, especially in the open field.
Foster has dealt with several injuries this season, and it is unknown whether or not he will be able to suit up against the Bengals. However, the Texans need him this week as they try to make their final playoff push. He gives them a rare talent who can help the team run the ball consistently and forces opposing defenses to adjust. They have to give him more respect, opening up the game for the talented receivers on the roster.
If Foster can stay healthy, then the Texans will have a good chance of winning.
