Predicting the Final Score of Detroit Lions vs. New England Patriots

Road trips are always tough for a NFL team, but the Detroit Lions’ road trip takes tough to a whole new level. After playing and losing to the now 9-1 Arizona Cardinals on the road, the Lions now travel to Foxborough to take on the hottest team in the entire league: the New England Patriots. Man, life’s hard sometimes.

For Matthew Stafford and the Lions offense, it’ll be imperative to get the ground game going. We all saw what happened last weekend in Indianapolis when you become one dimensional against this Patriots’ defense. If the Lions can get Joique Bell, Reggie Bush or whatever other running backs they want running on this defense, that will force the Patriots to dedicate more players to stop the run.

That being said, the Patriots can dedicate more defenders to the run because of Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner. While many would assume Revis will be matched up against Calvin Johnson, don’t be surprised to see the behemoth Browner, at all of 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, lined up against the equally behemoth-ly Johnson. Revis would then bounce over and cover Golden Tate, someone a little more his size.

The Patriots have to worry about Detroit’s front four, which is highlighted by of course Ndamukong Suh and defensive end Ziggy Ansah. Like my stunning advice for the Lions’ offense, if the Patriots can get running back/human bowling ball Jonas Gray moving against this No. 1 ranked defense (easier said then done), that will help keep this elite defensive line honest and prevent them from relentlessly pass rushing poor old Tom Brady.

Oh, and let’s not forget about the defense destroyer himself, Rob Gronkowski. I feel pretty safe in saying that no one in the NFL can cover this man and that he’ll have a big game at home. Try your hardest, Detroit; there’s no stopping Gronk.

This game will be a battle, but the Patriots are not only on a burning hot streak they are also at home where they are close to unbeatable. It’s next to impossible to pick against Brady and Bill Belichick, so I’ll refrain from doing so. Plus, let’s be honest; I want the Patriots to win.

Prediction: Patriots 28, Lions 17
