The Arizona Cardinals are attempting to put a stranglehold on the NFC West crown this weekend when they face the Seattle Seahawks in the first of two meetings this season. The 9-1 Cards can move closer to a division championship with a win this weekend, and running back Andre Ellington is the key to an Arizona win in Week 12.
The Cards have shuffled between quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton this season due to Palmer injuries, and the team has been able to win with both at the helm. Arizona’s Super Bowl hopes lie with Stanton after Palmer suffered a season-ending injury, but this week it will be Ellington who lifts the Cards to victory.
The Seahawks at 6-4 currently sit three games behind Arizona, and a Cardinals win this weekend would put the Cardinals four games ahead of Seattle with five weeks left to play. Ellington has been the workhorse in the backfield, with at least 18 carries in each of the last six weeks. He’ll be the key to victory because you need to run the ball effectively to beat the Seahawks.
The defending Super Bowl champs have given up over 100 yards rushing in each of their four defeats. In Seattle’s six wins, they gave up 100 yards rushing only once. An effective run game is their weakness and the key to a Cardinal win. Ellington has yet to post a 100-yard game, but he has consistently worn down defenses. The Cardinals have extremely talented receivers, and Ellington will open up the pass game with hard-nose running between the tackles.
If the Cards can establish Ellington and the run game, they have a good chance at setting themselves up as the No. 1 seed in the NFC come playoff time. Ellington runs hard, so expect him to make a huge impact in a game that can make the Cardinals the dominant team in the NFC. The Seahawks’ defense is stout of course, but Ellington can break through and help the Cardinals move closer to winning the West.
It no longer seems impossible to beat Seattle at home, and Arizona has simply been finding ways to win this year. A run game will greatly help out Stanton and maintain possession for the Cardinals. It takes a lot to beat the Seahawks in Seattle, but a solid run game led by Ellington can make it happen.
