Dallas Cowboys Look to Continue Run to Playoffs In Tough Matchup

This Sunday’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants may be the last for veteran coach Tom Coughlin. He is entering his 11th season as the Giants head coach and he is coming off of two disappointing seasons which had his teams finish with records of 8-8 and 7-9, and this year his team currently has a 3-7 record and appears to be spiraling downward. In the past, his teams have shown the ability the go on a run and make the playoffs but it looks as though most of his stalwarts are either aging, injured, or no longer on the team, so I wouldn’t expect that sort of run this year.

He has a career 12-10 record against the Cowboys and in that time there have been some pretty epic battles between him and Dallas. It doesn’t matter if his team is down like they are now or if they are riding high in the division, you can always expect a tough and physical game with your team feeling beat up afterwards whether they won or not.

And this is exactly what the Cowboys will face this Sunday night when they line up against the Giants. Coughlin is well aware of the fact that whispers have started up again that he either needs to gracefully retire or be given a job in the front office to let someone else take over the reins, so you know that he will pull out all the stops to help keep his job and to possibly get his team back on track.

But none of this should matter for the Cowboys as they have the better team and more on the line. They are coming off of a bye week in which they got a little healthier and had the opportunity to get away from the grind for a bit. They know that a big division showdown on national television with the Philadelphia Eagles looms large next week, so they can’t afford to go limping into that game with a loss to a weaker team.

Jason Garrett and company will look to establish the run and take an early lead so the local New York fans will turn on their team and hopefully have the Giants saying to themselves “Here we go again!” And if they are smart they will also continue to execute a game plan that is designed to protect Romo’s health and, in the process, cut down on the amount of pressure he will see in the pocket.

I do see a different team this year from the ones in the past and I fully expect these Cowboys to come out and handle their business as a winning team would, as they try and get ready for an important stretch that could lead them to the playoffs. And to Mr. Coughlin, I bid a farewell to you and I thank you for the memories.
