The New York Giants have an unimpressive 3-7 record and are currently tied for last place in the NFC East. This automatically puts head coach Tom Coughlin in the hot seat going into the 2015 offseason. It’s safe to say that the Giants’ organization is possibly looking into new head coaching candidates to replace the NFL’s oldest head coach. There are three ideal candidates that would fit perfectly in the Giants’ organization if Coughlin is fired.
Giants’ offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo is definitely a viable option. McAdoo was signed by the Giants this past offseason so there is a big issue with a lack of experience. Most head coaches have years of experience on all different kinds of levels before making the jump to head coach. If the Giants choose to stick with the West Coast offense, it only makes sense to promote McAdoo. His offense has shown some flashes of brilliance, but lacks consistency. The Giants’ offensive performance for the rest of the season will be McAdoo’s audition for the head coaching job.
Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is the kind of coach that John Mara would love to have for the Giants. Mara tries to keep the Giants one of the classiest teams in football starting with his emphasis on tradition. Bowles is a former undrafted free agent and New Jersey native. Bowles knows what it’s like to be an underdog. He could ignite the Giants’ lackluster roster and make them the hungry contenders they once were. If the Mara comes calling, it will be hard for Bowles to turn down coaching a team in his home state.
Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton is most likely going to be the hottest head coaching candidate on the market. There are already rumors that the Giants, as well as the San Francisco 49ers, are heavily interested in him. Hamilton has proved that he is ready to be a head coach in the NFL, lighting up opposing defenses with Andrew Luck and company. Hamilton is well known and respected amongst the NFL community. He could make the Giants’ offense an opposing defense’s nightmare with wide receivers Victor Cruz and Odell Beckham Jr. running wild.
