More Than A Win For Raiders’ Derek Carr
If you took out anything from the Oakland Raiders‘ stunning 24-20 defeat over arch rival Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, it was rookie quarterback Derek Carr. After a hard fought match in a wet and damp Black Hole, the rookie showed that he wants to be a part of this franchise’s future. Even though running back Latavius Murray had a career night scoring two touchdowns and running for 112 yards on only four carries, Carr took the Raiders down the field and threw the winning touchdown in the final moments.
No doubt that Carr has had more bad games than good this season, but this win will be remembered for Carr. A rookie who fell into the worst hands possible decided not quit on them and give them a win. If you know the Raiders well enough, then you should know they have trouble finishing in the fourth quarter–well, in general for that matter. In this win, Carr showed that he has the ability to lead this team in the winning direction. The Raiders’ players and fans celebrated a meaningless win, but for them, they saw the ability that their rookie quarterback has.
Carr wasn’t going to allow this win get away as it would be a shame because the Raiders had the lead for the majority of the game. Carr completed 18 out of his 35 passes and he also threw 174 yards along with a touchdown. After the final whistle, Carr’s teammates rushed him and handed him the game ball for obvious reasons. Even though his first NFL career win came later than expected, Carr will remember it for a while.
The Raiders’ 0-16 streak dating from last year has been more than painful, but Carr ended that talk Thursday and said that he’s just happy his teammates are smiling again.
The Raiders were smiling alright and when Carr took that kneel down, his smile was biggest of all.
