Tom Brady handing the ball off to … Adrian Peterson?
Yes, this could happen next year, and ultimately, the New England Patriots should make it happen. The Patriots have lacked a solid rusher ever since the days of Corey Dillon. While Steven Ridley has come to the forefront of the Patriots’ rushing game, he is very injury prone and has also dealt with fumbling issues in his short career.
Peterson would be the perfect fit in New England. He would bring his size and speed to a team that already has a Hall of Fame quarterback and coach. Peterson, although under controversy this season due to his court case, has rushed for 1,000 yards in all of his seven seasons with the exception of once in 2011, where he fell 30 yards short of the mark. The Patriots have had only 3 1,000 yard rushers since the turn of the century, including Dillon, Ridley and BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
Since the Patriots have a decent amount of cap space, it could allow them to add Peterson to the roster without much trouble. Adding Peterson to the offense would allow coach Bill Belicheck to open up a playbook that is already more complex then most teams have in their array.
Peterson is suspended without pay for the rest of the 2014 season, and all signs lead to his departure from the Minnesota Vikings after the season. The Patriots should take this opportunity to add an All-Pro rusher to their already maniacal offensive machine.
