Throughout the 2014 season, the Chicago Bears have often been the laughing stock of the NFL, and are definitely leading the list of most disappointing teams of the year. The list of things that need fixing reads like an epic novel, and starts at the most troubling position of all — team owner. Many fans would jump on board a plan that calls for a complete overhaul of ownership, general manager, head coach and of course, quarterback. Other fans see the same potential that everyone saw just a few short months ago before the season began. Those fans will have you believe that the team can turn things around. Perhaps they are right.
The Bears were embarrassed in back-to-back games against the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers. Since those losses, however, other quality teams have suffered the same fate when facing those same two opponents, who clearly are the odds on favorites in their respective conferences to make it to the Superbowl. One of the latest victims to share the same fate as the Bears at the hands of the Patriots is the Detroit Lions, who just happen to be next up for the Bears.
There has been some promise shown in the past two weeks by the much-maligned Bears, as they have won both games to start a modest winning streak. The Lions, on the other hand, have dropped two in a row, albeit to two AFC divisional leaders. A few weeks ago, it didn’t seem likely we would enter the Thanksgiving week with the Bears winners of their past two games and the Lions losers of their last two — but that is where we find ourselves, and the surprises are just beginning.
I posted another article today that breaks down the five ways the Bears can beat the Lions. I encourage you to take a look and track those key points throughout the game. I believe we have reached a point when the attention is off of the Bears, and the dust has settled from the week-to-week disruptions off the field. The team is now focused on rediscovering themselves and finding the potential that listed them as a probable playoff team back in September. The Lions, despite a new outlook under first year head coach Jim Caldwell, may have just started their annual meltdown.
Look for the Bears to make it three in a row — wins for them and losses for Detroit — as they find their offense on a national stage and outpace the Lions 42-34.
