Former NFL QB Tyler Thigpen Charged With DUI After Passing Out In Wendy’s Drive-Thru
Tyler Thigpen is currently on the NFL free agent market. He may be staying there permanently after a sad/bizarre incident from early Sunday morning in South Carolina.
According to the incident report, Thigpen was found asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle in a Wendy’s drive-thru.
“The officers approached the Cadillac and saw that Thigpen was asleep in the driver’s seat with his foot on the brake. Horry County police said it took several minutes to awaken him. When they did, Thigpen told police he was confused, didn’t know where he was or how he had gotten there, according to the report.”
Thigpen denied being under the influence of alcohol, despite apparently reeking of it. He then refused all field sobriety tests and was hauled downtown on charges of DUI.
Incidents like this are completely inexcusable. While Thigpen is yet to be convicted of a crime, the writing is on the wall — late night, drive-thru, asleep at the wheel, reeking of alcohol. Sounds like someone needs to grow up.
Aside from legal action that may be taken against him, Thigpen may have also cost himself a shot at ever playing in the NFL again. That, more than anything else, would be a fitting punishment for this alleged crime.
