Not only is the matchup between the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers the best game on television this week, it’ll also be the preview to the Super Bowl. Yes, I have looked into the future with my magical future telling ball thing, and it informs me that the two hottest teams in the NFL will be facing off again in the Super Bowl.
The Patriots are obvious favorites coming out of the AFC. I feel like I don’t need to tell you why, but because I can’t stop talking about how awesome this team is, I’ll tell you anyways.
For starters, over the last three weeks, the Pats beat the Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions by a combined 79-50 and scored 20-plus points in each of those games. The defense beat the best offense in football (Colts), and the offense just beat the best defense in football (Lions). Is there anything this team can’t beat!?
Not to mention that the Patriots have a multitude of weapons on both sides of the ball which makes game-planning against them next to impossible. Will the Pats run Jonas Gray and LeGarrette Blount all game long, or will Tom Brady throw for 300 yards? Will Darrelle Revis be on the best opposing receiver, or will it be Brandon Browner? Or maybe it will be Logan Ryan because why not?
Bill Belichick has so much freedom in how to use his weapons that the Patriots’ whole team identity changes with each week.
In the NFC, there are two teams battling for supremacy: the Packers and the Arizona Cardinals. While the Cardinals are a delightful Cinderella story of an injury-riddled team playing to the Super Bowl that they host, sadly Drew Stanton (no matter how many times Bruce Arians desperately cries it) will not take the Cardinals to the Super Bowl. Not when Aaron Rodgers stands in the way.
Now I’ll be the first person to remind everyone at home that defenses do win championships and the Cardinals do have one of the best. But at a certain point your offense will need to score points, and matching up against the high-flying offense of the Packers doesn’t bode well for the Arizona faithful. The Packers have too many receivers who can do too many things, and with Eddie Lacy finally realizing that he can just run over people, this offense looks unstoppable.
Maybe the future telling ball thing will lead me astray and the Cardinals or the some dark horse team (looking right at you, Atlanta Falcons) will make it to the Lombardi fight. But I feel pretty confident these two teams will be battling it out for all the glory.
So if you miss this Week 13 game, don’t worry; you’ll be able to watch it again in February.
