The first matchup between the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks of 2012 should be a big deal, but it isn’t. Many thought Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III were the future of the league. The Washington Redskins thought so highly of RG III that they traded three first-round picks and a second-round pick to move up from the sixth spot to the second to select him. Now, there is talk of what the Redskins can get in a trade for Griffin.
That is why Griffin is the key to this game. Luck is going to produce. He has done so in pretty much every game of his career. He has lived up to the hype. Griffin has done anything but, minus his rookie year.
He needs to play better. Griffin is fighting for his job right now. He is trying to show the Washington media and the fans that he is more than just a smile. He is continuously under fire for the things he says and the way ownership deals with him. It is time for RG III’s play on the field to equal the amount of coverage he gets.
The Indianapolis Colts are coming into this game as a whopping nine-point favorite. That is a direct correlation to how people feel about the quarterback battle. The surrounding talent around Luck and Griffin are similar. They are both expected to overcome some setbacks along the rest of their team. Luck is turning that into a playoff team while Griffin has trouble staying on the field with his.
Griffin has to have his first 300-yard game of the season if the Redskins are going to have any chance to win. Luck is going to do that and more with his team. He is going to have to get Pierre Garcon going and hit DeSean Jackson as much as possible. It would go down as one of the biggest upsets of the year, but it is just what RG III needs.
