The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been on a hot streak recently. This may sound like an odd statement because they haven’t won several games in a row, but their offense has been on fire. The main reason they have had this offensive explosion is because of rookie wide receiver Mike Evans, and the Buccaneers will need him to show up big again in Week 13 to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals.
Evans has been a monster for the Buccaneers in their losing efforts. The rookie has had over 100 yard receiving in three of his last four games, with one of those games resulting in over 200 yards. He has also scored a touchdown in his last four games, including two touchdowns in two of those games.
Evans seems to be hitting his stride in the NFL, and it helps that quarterback Josh McCown is giving him more targets than any receiver on the team. It is expected that Evans will get those touches again this week.
Cincinnati has the fifth-best pass defense in the NFL against wide receivers, and it is part of the reason why they are on top of the AFC North. But if the pass defense has a weakness, it is the second cornerback on the Bengals’ roster, Leon Hall. Hall will likely be covering Evans this weekend and if that is the case, Evans should have the opportunity to have another explosive game.
With their season being virtually over, the Buccaneers are in the mindset of upsetting top teams and that starts with the Bengals this week. They’re going to have to get by one of the best pass defenses in the game to do that, but if Evans can put up a game similar to his last four, they will be on their way to shocking the NFL world.
