New York Jets Need To Finally Draft a Legit Franchise QB
The New York Jets need to stop playing musical chairs with their quarterback situation and address it once and for all by drafting the top quarterback available in the 2015 NFL Draft. Needless to say, this season is pretty much over for the Jets, and once the offseason hits, major changes should and will happen. One of their top priorities easily should be who their starting quarterback will be next season.
It’s no secret that the combination of Geno Smith and Michael Vick didn’t work this season. Smith’s future as a starting quarterback in the NFL is in question, and quite honestly, Vick isn’t a long-term option. Every team that found incredible success did so by having a franchise quarterback. Take a look at the immediate impact Andrew Luck had on the Indianapolis Colts to see the power of getting the best quarterback available when your number comes up.
The same results and immediate turnaround could also happen with the Jets if they just realized they will go nowhere without having a prolific quarterback. Many believe that Marcus Mariota could be the top quarterback available in the upcoming draft. Someone of his abilities and skills would thrive on the Jets with the pieces on offense slowly coming together.
With a top draft pick most likely coming to the Jets due to their poor season, they should do whatever is necessary to secure their future franchise quarterback. Whether it’s making a blockbuster trade with draft picks or players, they must secure someone like Mariota or even better.
Until the Jets wake up and realize they will go nowhere with either Vick or Smith next season, they will continue to be the laughingstock of the league. Once they bring in a legit, top-notch rookie quarterback, it will make an immediate difference and bring credibility back to the organization. That will be the moment the Jets are taken more seriously.
