The Indianapolis Colts sit comfortably at the top of the AFC South for the moment, but their AFC South competitors, the Houston Texans, only sit two games back with a game in Indianapolis remaining. Every win is crucial for the Colts from here on out, because an unexpected loss could be the difference between a trip to the playoffs and finishing as an average team in the league.
Next up for Indianapolis is the Washington Redskins. The Redskins only have three wins on the season, but constant quarterback changes and close losses have hindered their progress. It’s not the Colts’ defense or even budding young star quarterback Andrew Luck who will have the biggest impact on the outcome against the Redskins. The key for a Colts win on Sunday is the play of running back Daniel Herron.
Herron comes into the Colts squad after an injury cut Ahmad Bradshaw’s season short. He tends to be the main back on passing downs and has played decently in the few games that he’s been in so far, running for 65 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
However, flashes of talent and great games are two completely different things. Herron has to come up big against the Redskins, because despite their horrible record, their defense is one of the top 10 in the NFL. If Indianapolis can get some good production from Herron, then this game should be a breeze. If not, the Colts can expect this game to be far too close for comfort.
