Nobody has called LeSean McCoy by his real first name since he played football at the University of Pittsburgh.
In fact, in Philadelphia, he’s simply known by one name: Shady. Not his birth name of LeSean or McCoy, just simply Shady and, like Slim Shady, the real Shady was back for the Philadelphia Eagles in a 33-10 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day.
McCoy finished with 159 yards, and added about as spectacular a 38-yard touchdown run fans will ever see.
Whether McCoy ever left was a question only because it had been asked by the Philadelphia media all season. McCoy stormed off the interview podium after one practice when he was asked if he was the same player as last year. Basically, this was his version of Allen Iverson’s infamous “practice” comments.
In reality, though, McCoy had never left, even though a lot of his thunder had been taken by the Cowboys’ DeMarco Murray, who entered the game as the league’s leading rusher. That was the title McCoy held last season, and maybe he was ill-advised when he said he was shooting for 2,000 yards.
While not as good as Murray this season, McCoy really had nothing to explain because his 849 yards coming into the game was good enough for fourth among all NFL backs.
He will not get to 2,000 yards this season, but his performance on Thursday might have gotten his team something much more important — the inside track to another NFC East title.
