Philadelphia Eagles’ Riley Cooper Might Have Lit A Fire Under Jeremy Maclin

It wasn’t the first time something Riley Cooper said ruffled a few feathers in the Philadelphia Eagles locker room, but this time what one wide receiver said might have lit a fire under a teammate, and that only helped Jeremy Maclin get off to a good start in a Thanksgiving Day showdown at the Dallas Cowboys.

Earlier this week. Cooper suggested that Maclin does not sub out because he’s bargaining for a new contract. That miffed Maclin, and if it fired him up on Thursday, it was a well-time remark for the team as a whole. Cooper said it was “just a joke” but at least early on, the joke appeared to be on the Cowboys.

The Eagles scored a pair of touchdowns on the way to a 14-0 lead that would become 23-7 at halftime, and Maclin was in the middle of both drives, catching important passes. Maclin had four catches for 82 yards in the first half, with a long gain of 58. For his part, Cooper, who signed a five-year, $22 million contract before the season began, has not been on the field as much this season.

Maclin said it wasn’t smart of Cooper to make his quip, and took his frustrations out on the field against the Cowboys. For now, it seems like what could have been a problem in the Eagles’ locker room at least worked to the team’s advantage.
