Don’t let the throttling in Arlington fool you; the Dallas Cowboys will still win the NFC East.
Dallas played a Sunday night game followed by a Thursday afternoon game, both against division rivals. Coming out flat wasn’t a possibility — it was inevitable. Three days rest is conducive to a letdown game, but if you’re a Cowboys fan, it wasn’t a game that should let you down.
The Philadelphia Eagles host the reanimated Seattle Seahawks next week and then get the Cowboys again. After playing a revenge-ready Cowboys team, the Eagles close out the regular season with two games on the road. Even though it’s the Washington Redskins and New York Giants, neither of these away games will be a gimme.
Dallas has a tough final quarter as well, but they get their toughest team at home (Indianapolis Colts in Week 16) and finish with another revenge game at the Redskins. By then, the Cowboys should finally have Colt McCoy figured out.
Look for the Cowboys to drop one game (probably Indy), but expect the Eagles to drop three (Seahawks, Cowboys and one of Redskins/Giants). The Cowboys have the best offensive line in football, and the Eagles have the stressing pressure of holding a division lead. The Cowboys complement their stellar line with the NFL‘s leading rusher, DeMarco Murray, and this will be the separation factor for upcoming cold weather football. With Dallas having the luxury of full rest for their remaining contests, look for them to control the line of scrimmage, the flow of the game and also their destiny.
If this scenario plays out, the Eagles would end up 10-6 and the Cowboys would take the division at 11-5. This sounds crazy and is contingent on Tony Romo staying healthy, but nothing’s set in stone until it’s etched on the field.
