The St. Louis Police Officers Association demands a public apology from the St. Louis Rams and the NFL after five Rams players walked out on to the field on Sunday with their hands raised similar to what protestors have been doing all week in Ferguson. Even though there are two sides to the situation, it is clear the St. Louis police officers have every reason to be mad at the five players who conducted in poor behavior.

Yes, it is true the players have the constitutional right of freedom of speech, which means they are allowed to speak their mind without being condemned. At the same time, the stage at which they decided to express their opinions was very wrong, especially since there were more than 50 business owners and clean-up-crew workers in attendance.

It does not matter where a person stands on the controversial topic of the death of Michael Brown at the hands of police officer Darren Wilson. The players essentially slapped the local business owners across the face by supporting the rioters and looters with their hands up, don’t shoot demeanor. Remember, many of the business owners lost their livelihood after hundreds of rioters damaged their businesses by looting and burning them to the ground. The Rams should be in support of the community, not adding to the problem.

Wilson was proven innocent of any wrongdoing after an overwhelming amount of physical evidence showed that Brown was killed in self-defense. Yet, people in Ferguson continue to support the fictional claim that Brown was some sort of civil rights activist who was murdered at the hands of a hateful police officer.

The St. Louis police officers have worked tirelessly over the holiday weekend to ensure the fans, players and coaches would remain safe during the game. The thanks they received was five clueless players who decided to add fuel to the fire.

Along with a heartfelt apology, the St. Louis Police Officers Association wants the five players to be disciplined for their actions. Whether the Rams decide to make good on the apology is a different story, especially with the level of controversy that has engulfed the community.
