New York Jets Need To Build Around Eric Decker In 2015
Eric Decker went from a Super Bowl contending team to one that can barely even get a win even when everything is in its favor. The New York Jets wide receiver continues to lead the team in receptions, yards and touchdowns, but
those stats tend to mean little when there are few victories to show for it. It has gotten to the point where his own wife, Jessie James, has made several comments that her husband has been rather down and depressed these past few months.
Needless to say, many within the organization are pretty down too. The truth is that the team’s lack of success stems from a variety of areas within the team: from their issues at quarterback, woes at cornerback and just flat-out lack of overall execution, much work must be done by the Jets heading into the offseason.
If the Jets want to contend next year, they need to build around Decker for this season’s performance, absolutely living up to his contract and expectations. While he might not be a true No. 1 receiver, he still plays the game hard and with passion and willing anything necessary to succeed; as a natural-born competitor, he just wants to do his part to win.
The Jets will most likely keep wide receiver Percy Harvin around for the next few years and continue to add playmakers to open up the offense and lift some of the pressure off of Decker’s shoulders. The Jets should bolster their receiving corps to give their offense a much-needed group of star players to really light things up through the air.
Overall, Decker has the right mentality to succeed and get those around him to believe in the bigger picture at hand. This season is all but over as all eyes will be on the upcoming major changes that need to happen for next year. It’s safe to say that Decker has done as much as he can and should continue to be a bright spot for years to come.
