This game between the New York Giants and the Tennessee Titans likely will not be a great one to watch. Neither team has won a game since the beginning of October are on very long losing streaks. The Giants happen to have the longer losing streak of seven games, and if they want to end that streak this Sunday it will come down to their two-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback.
Aside from the Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers, Eli Manning has had a very good season. He ranks 11th in the league in total QBR and has cut down his interceptions big time. He has done this with an awful offensive line and having lost his most reliable offensive weapon, Victor Cruz, early in the year.
Manning needs to continue his solid play this week, but he is going to need help from the coaching staff, and more specifically Tom Coughlin and offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. The last two weeks Manning and the offense have gotten off to great starts and went into halftime in both of those games with double-digit leads. In the second half of both of those games, however, the Giants stopped being aggressive and played to not lose instead of playing to win.
The Titans’ defense is one of the worst in the league, and while they are equally bad against the run and pass, the Giants need to let Manning throw the ball until he puts this game out of reach. He has to make sure he protects the ball, which Manning has done relatively well this year, and the line needs to do a much better job of protecting him. But in the end, the Giants’ two best offensive players are Manning and Odell Beckham Jr., and they need to be trusted to close out games.
The Giants have nothing to lose at this point, so they should do everything in their power to put as many points on the board as possible. It is clear that the conservative approach doesn’t work to try to close out games for the Giants, so this week they need to go take this game from Tennessee.
