This Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs will have a chance for some revenge against the Oakland Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium. Before Week 12, the Chiefs were looking like a sure thing for the playoffs. Then, the Raiders embarrassed Kansas City on Thursday Night Football for their first win of the season, sending KC on their current three-game losing streak.
This is an interesting game to predict. No one knows if the Raiders team that beat both the Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will show up, or if it will be the team that got blown out 52-0 by the St. Louis Rams. It’s also unknown if the we’ll see the ice-cold Chiefs we’ve seen in the last three weeks, or the team that won seven of eight games against almost nothing but playoff contenders.
I’m going to put both teams somewhere in the middle of their oddly wide spectrums of performances. If that’s the case, I’m going with Kansas City. They’re at home and pretty much in a do-or-die situation. Kansas City fans who were hoping for a home playoff game will basically see one on Sunday, which should make the environment that much crazier for Derek Carr and company.
The Chiefs are the favorite, but a win probably won’t be a walk in the park like it was for the Rams. Kansas City is pathetic when it comes to stopping the run, as evidenced by Latavius Murray’s 112 yards on four carries in Week 12. Furthermore, Jamaal Charles is a little banged up with a sore knee and ankle. He’s not expected to sit, but his workload could take a hit.
It should be a relatively close game, but the Chiefs have a slight advantage in most aspects outside of when the Raiders run and possibly play-calling. Andy Reid has had more than his share of moments that baffled fans this season, but if he can keep that in check, Kansas City should be okay.
Prediction: Chiefs 24, Raiders 17
