It does not take a genius to figure out that the Carolina Panthers’ 2014 campaign was about as disappointing as it gets. For a team that many had winning the NFC South and going deep in the playoffs, the 5-8-1 Panthers are very likely to miss out on the postseason, although they remain alive thanks to the NFC South being the laughing stock of the NFL. Despite the dismal season and his possible season-ending injury, quarterback Cam Newton has still managed to brighten the holidays for the Panthers community.

Yes, that is Newton dressed up in Christmas gear playing Santa Claus for the kids of Charlotte, North Carolina. On Tuesday, Newton traveled to four different middle schools to give the students gifts for Christmas. It took him four hours to complete the good deed, which cost him more than $31,000.

If that was not enough, rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin and backup quarterback Joe Webb dressed up as elves to help Newton, I mean Santa, pass out the gifts. Newton also took pictures with students and faculty.

Newton takes flak for many things that he does on and off the field, but him dressing up as Santa to hand out gifts is a real treat. I understand this is somewhat required of him considering he is the face of the Panthers, but still, no one forced him to buy a bunch of Under Armour gear and gift cards to give to students at local schools.

Once again, look no further than professional athletes to show us what the season of giving is all about.
