The 2014 season hasn’t been friendly to the Oakland Raiders. Led by rookie quarterback Derek Carr, the Raiders have had their share of ups and downs. Besides one run from Latavius Murray against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Raiders have gotten basically nothing from their running backs all season long.

However, the Raiders have a decent defense and a young one for that matter. With Christmas just around the corner, Oakland desperately needs a head coach that will immediately come in and make this team better.

Oakland has historically been a tough place to coach in. Ever since Jon Gruden left, the Raiders have received nothing from any of their head coaches. Even though Bill Callahan brought this team to the Super Bowl in 2003, it’s safe to say that the only reason why was because of the team Gruden built the year before.

The latest head coach for the Raiders was Dennis Allen. Coming over from the Denver Broncos after 2011, Allen didn’t do much with this franchise. Since Allen was fired midway through the year, Tony Sparano, who was a head coach for the Miami Dolphins for three and a half seasons, has had to guide this team. The reality is that Sparano is not an NFL-caliber head coach.

With all of that being said, the Raiders need a guy that has a fiery attitude and has a track record of winning. That coach is Rex Ryan, who will likely be fired after the season by the New York Jets. Although he will likely be forced out of New York, it should be said that the Jets don’t have a lot of talent, which is John Idzik‘s fault, not Ryan’s.

Throughout his coaching career, Ryan has fielded some of the best defenses in the history of the NFL. In Oakland, Ryan would have a ton of young pieces to work with to build a top-five defense. If the Raiders bring in Ryan as well as an established offensive mind, this team could finish with around seven wins in 2015.

They’ll need a big Christmas tree, but Raiders fans should be hoping Santa brings Ryan to Oakland on December 25.
