Week 17 Matchup: New Orleans Saints (6-9) vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-13)
TV Schedule: Sunday, Dec. 28, 1:00 p.m. ET, FOX
Stadium: Raymond James Stadium
Line: New Orleans (-4)
Thanks to a loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 16, the New Orleans Saints have nothing to play for in Week 17. Still, they are playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have only won a total of two games.
Not making the playoffs this year has to hit hard for Drew Brees and co., but they are lucky they hung on for this long. If it wasn’t for a weak division, the Saints more than likely would have been eliminated a couple weeks ago.
Although Tampa Bay is easily one of the NFL’s worst teams, it managed to play New Orleans tough earlier in the year (lost in overtime). Still, the Buccaneers are riding a five-game losing streak.
I’m sure Brees and the rest of his team would like to go out on a good note, so I am predicting a big game out of the Saints. It always helps when a team closes out the regular season against a team as bad as Tampa Bay, even if the contest is played on the road.
While this game is virtually pointless in the grand scheme of things, look for New Orleans to add one more loss to the Buccaneers’ record. At the same time, Tampa Bay is still in line for the worst record in the NFL, so playing all out in this one may not be the most ideal thing in the world, assuming this team wants the No. 1 draft pick.
PREDICTION: Saints 35, Buccaneers 21
