With a victory over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, the Denver Broncos were able to secure a first-round bye in the playoffs. The win was very important as the Broncos are currently nursing a number of injuries, including a recent one to star quarterback Peyton Manning. The win also means the Broncos will play their first playoff game at home where they have yet to lose this season.
The Broncos wanted to make sure that they took care of business in order to get the best possible seeding for the playoffs. Even though the Raiders came in with a 3-12 record, they have surprised several teams throughout the season with tough games and anything can happen in a division rivalry game. The Broncos did a good job on both sides of the ball as well as on special teams and did their part in not looking past this game.
The offense was extremely balanced, with over 400 total yards, as both the running backs and wide receivers came to play. Defensively, they were able to contain the Raiders’ offense, who were unable to get anything going for most of the game. The Broncos kicking game has not necessarily been a strength so far this season, but Connor Barth was able to come through for them today and give the team confidence for the postseason.
The Broncos will now get an extra week to prepare for their opponent, which also gives the team much needed rest. They have plenty of veterans to keep the team focused during the off week, as they get ready for their first playoff game. Playing at home will also be a huge factor, as they have proven how dominant they can be when playing in Denver.
