Had it been any other player, a suspension likely wouldn’t have been the end result. However, because it was Ndamukong Suh, the NFL chose to hand down a one-game suspension after the Detroit Lions’ defensive tackle repeatedly stepped on the injured leg of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The incident occurred on Sunday after Rodgers had re-aggravated a calf injury, so it seemed a little suspicious that Suh just happened to step on that same leg – twice.
Here’s a look at it if you’ve yet to see it.
Again, it seems like an accident, and probably would have been deemed one if it wasn’t for the fact that Suh was the offender. Although he’s only been suspended one other time for his on-field antics, Suh has a history of dirty play and taking cheap shots on his opponents – especially the Packers.
He’s stomped on the arm of Evan Dietrich-Smith, thrown a low block on John Sullivan, kicked Matt Schaub in the crotch… The list goes on and on, and there are likely other offenses that simply went unnoticed. Suh was voted the NFL’s dirtiest player for a reason, which is why this suspension is well deserved.
Suh will appeal the suspension, but if it is upheld, he will be forced to miss the Lions’ Wild Card showdown with the Dallas Cowboys. If that’s the case, expect DeMarco Murray to run all over the Detroit defense.
It may seem like a coincidence that Suh happened to step on Rodgers’ injured leg. In this case, though, his history of poor judgment came back to bite him.
