The Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions are ready for the final matchup of the Wild Card round. All eyes will be on this matchup to see which team will be able to avoid past demons and be able to move on in the NFC playoff picture.
The Cowboys are coming into this game trying to live up to their legacy. They have one playoff win since 1996. Tony Romo has a long list of failures in December and January. The thought is that will be behind them since they went 4-0 in December and are averaging over 40 points per game this month.
The Lions have not been so great against good competition. They have one win against a playoff team all season long. They made it into the playoffs by winning two against the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings, and beating the three non-NFC South winners by a combined 17 points.
This matchup will be a true strength versus strength competition. The Lions are the best team in the league when it comes to stopping the run. They have Ndamukong Suh clogging up the middle after his suspension was overturned. They will be taking on the league’s top rusher DeMarco Murray and the Cowboys’ amazing offensive line. Zach Martin may be the best rookie outside of Odell Beckham this season. It will be interesting to see who ends up winning this part of the matchup.
The Lions’ offense has been up and down all season. They haven’t been very good at running the ball despite having Reggie Bush and Joique Bell carrying the ball. Their passing offense has still been very good at times. They have Matthew Stafford throwing to both Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate. The Cowboys are still having trouble stopping teams from throwing on them, ranking 26th in the league in passing yards against.
This game is going to come down to each team’s passing game. Dez Bryant is going to look to show he is as good, if not better, than Megatron as he tries to play for a new contract. Romo and Bryant will be too much for this defense to handle, and it will be a huge victory for this Cowboys team.
Final Score: Dallas 33, Detroit 26
