The New York Jets are doing their very best to ensure their new general manager has the credentials and skills to get the job done in 2015. They’ve been conducting an extensive search and scheduling interviews with plenty of top candidates so they have the best person on the job. It’s a smart way to handle this search as their next general manager must be able to fix the plethora of issues that the Jets face heading into the offseason.
With free agency, the 2015 NFL Draft and some personnel decisions to be made soon, a solid general manager is key for the Jets to turn things around this upcoming season. It all begins with setting the right foundation down so that another search can be made for the next head coach of the Jets.
It’s in the best interest of the Jets to have their hand-picked general manager in place before signing a head coach. The reason why to make sure it’s done this way is to ensure that they can work together to bring success to the Jets sooner rather than later. Since the Jets should be favored to be big spenders in free agency unlike last year, they need to have their general manager in place with priorities lined up ready to be addressed.
Overall, it’s great to see the Jets taking their time and not rushing to sign just anybody for the job. The fact that owner Woody Johnson is ensuring quality instead of being desperate shows that he wants to usher in a new identity to the franchise that better times are indeed ahead. It all starts with the best leadership in place to make key football decisions for a much brighter season this year and for years to come.
