Taking the bad with the good is what life is all about. Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera experienced that over the last couple of days.

After winning his first playoff game as the coach of the Panthers on Saturday, Rivera and his family are fine after a house fire broke out at around 4 a.m. Monday morning. Rivera reportedly smelled smoke and heard his fire detectors go off shortly afterward, which prompt him to get his family and himself to safety. Thankfully, none of the six people who were in the house was injured.

It took 55 firefighters over an hour to put out the 2-alarm call at the three-story brick house. The firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof to douse the massive flames. As of right now, there is no word on how the fire was started.

“It’s a busy week ahead for the city of Charlotte, including this family, who is devastated by the fire,” Charlotte Fire Capt. Rob Brisley told reporters, according to ESPN. “Early indications are this is an accidental fire.”

The Rivera family has already been informed they will not be able to stay in their home due to the smoke and water damage. Rivera is said to be gathering living arrangements.

With the Panthers defeating the Arizona Cardinals in their Wild Card matchup and the Dallas Cowboys emerging victorious over the Detroit Lions, Carolina will travel to the great Northwest to take on the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field for a divisional playoff game this weekend.
