The Green Bay Packers will take on the Dallas Cowboys in a playoff matchup at Lambeau Field for the first time since 1967. For those who can remember, yes, the “Ice Bowl” was a ridiculously cold contest. In anticipation for what is expected to be a cold game at Lambeau Field between the Packers and Cowboys for the divisional playoff, here are the top five coldest games in Lambeau Field history.

Temperature: 3 degrees Wind Chill: -23 degrees
Green Bay’s first championship game since the “Ice Bowl” was one to remember. The weather was fitting of the 1967 NFL Championship, even though it never reached that cold. Despite getting off to a slow start, the Packers put up 479 yards of total offense. More importantly, they went on to win the NFC Championship Game 30-13.

Temperature: 2 degrees
There’s no denying the 1990 season was not pretty for the Packers, but it did have one of the coldest games on record. On Dec. 22, 1990, Blair Kiel started at quarterback, tossed for 239 yards, and ran for a touchdown. Unfortunately, a horrible Kiel interception at the goal line combined with 133 rushing yards by the stellar Barry Sanders spelled a disastrous 24-17 loss for Green Bay.

Temperature: 0 degrees Wind Chill: -22 degrees
The Packers hadn’t been in the playoffs since 1982, which is why the contest against the Los Angeles Raiders on Dec. 26, 1993 was so important. Thankfully, Los Angeles couldn’t handle the freezing cold temperature, which allowed Green Bay to secure a playoff berth with a 28-0 win. The cherry on top of the cake was this was also the game in which the “Lambeau Leap” was born.

Temperature: -4 degrees Wind Chill: -24 degrees
A game many fans in Green Bay want to forget. The last image of Brett Favre in a Packers uniform is him throwing an interception in overtime during the frigid 2007 NFC Championship Game against the New York Giants. Green Bay would go on to lose the heart breaker, and the dream of Favre hoisting the Lombardi trophy one more time would never be.

The coldest game on record in NFL history is the 1967 NFL Championship, also known as the “Ice Bowl.” The contest that occurred between the Packers and Cowboys is the most legendary game in league history. Frostbite, permanent nerve damage, skin getting peeled off, a fan dying, numerous taken to the hospital and a Bart Starr quarterback sneak to win the contest is its legacy.
