It’s no question that the often frigid and unwelcoming football stadium known as Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers, is by far one of the most difficult and intimidating venues in all of sports. Just ask the Detroit Lions.
Perhaps that sickening feeling of always losing at Lambeau was passed down by the football gods to Dallas Cowboys fans after the team’s gift of a win against Detroit only a week ago. In their NFC Divisional Round playoff matchup with the Packers on Sunday afternoon, the Cowboys failed to reward their faithful fans with a trip to Seattle in the NFC Championship game after those fans made the 1,131-mile trip up to Wisconsin.
It turns out that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones didn’t, in fact, have everything figured out.
For the Cowboys, the stage was set. Although the majority of the bleachers were filled with the usual green and yellow on Sunday, you couldn’t help but notice a healthy dose of navy, silver and white annoying the local crowd at key moments for the Cowboys during the game. Whether it was a DeMarco Murray one-yard rush for a big touchdown in the third quarter or during any one of Jason Witten‘s key catches, Cowboys fans were definitely letting everyone know that they were in the building.
Their favorite team, on the other hand, didn’t quite show up with the same type of energy.
That said, the Cowboys should just suck it up and chalk this loss up as a “what goes around, comes around” moment. There will undoubtedly be claims that the controversial call on Dez Bryant‘s fourth-quarter bobble inside the Packers’ one-yard line stole a trip to the NFC Championship from Dallas. However, if you were to ask anyone else around the league, nobody is likely feeling sorry for any fan who has to make that long and agonizing trip home back to Big D.
