On Sunday, the Green Bay Packers hosted the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field in an NFC Divisional Round matchup to determine which team would travel to play the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game.
Coming into Sunday’s game, everyone was talking, and rightfully so, about the strain and tear in Aaron Rodgers’ left calf. All week Rodgers said he would play against the Cowboys, but it was clear from the beginning of Sunday’s game that his usually great mobility was limited. However, the Packers were able to keep the game close, and Rodgers looked much better and more comfortable in the second half, even if he still wasn’t quite as mobile as he normally he is.
Overall, Rodgers (24-of-35 for 316 yards and three TDs) and the rest of the Packers’ offense played well enough against a Dallas defense that just wasn’t as good as some thought. The Cowboys had other opportunities to win this game, but they could not take advantage, and it was all about Mr. Discount Double Check, who showed a lot of toughness.
It was obvious he was in pain, but he gritted it out and made big plays when he needed to.
That said, the Packers quarterback still has his work cut out for him. Rodgers needs to rest/treat his calf some more, and the Packers need to start preparing to take on the reigning Super Bowl champion Seahawks on the road. That should be a heck of a game between the top two seeds in the NFC with a spot to the big game on the line, and you can bet that the Seahawks do everything they can to put Rodgers’ toughness to test.
