After it took nearly 20 years to properly replace Jimmy Johnson and the infamous Triplets — Michael Irvin, Troy Aikman, and Emmitt SmithJerry Jones now has quite a task ahead of him to keep them all in place this upcoming offseason. He finally has a head coach who inspires everyone in the organization to follow his lead and vision for the team in Jason Garrett, and he also has a new set of triplets in Dez Bryant, Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray.

Getting Jones to look past his own set of plans for the Dallas Cowboys is no small task, as the only other coach outside of Johnson to be somewhat successful at it was the legendary Bill Parcells and that’s only because he came into the gig with championships under his belt. What helps Garrett is that he learned under the best when he was the third quarterback for the Cowboys in their heyday and he had Johnson’s and offensive coordinator Norv Turner’s brains to pick. He also went on to work under Nick Saban in his short time with the Miami Dolphins, so he definitely has the pedigree needed to be successful in the NFL. He came into this year as a lame duck coach in the final year of his contract, and all he did was lead this team to its best record in seven years.

So now that he has this team heading in the right direction and has the coordinators in place who can work with him on a game plan that best fits the talents of the players provided, Jones needs to do everything he can to keep things status quo in Dallas. Rumors are circulating that the Cleveland Browns want to interview offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Bill Callahan and the passing game coordinator/play-caller Scott Linehan for their vacant offensive coordinator position. And losing either one would be a big blow to this team, as it took years for Callahan to teach and successfully implement his zone blocking scheme on the offensive line.

That scheme was so successful that it led to becoming the league’s No. 2 rushing attack. Linehan has proven that he knows how to feature a big time receiver in his offense, having now coached Calvin Johnson and Bryant to career years under his watch, so you definitely want to hold on to him with Bryant about to enter the prime of his career.

Speaking of Bryant, his contract is up and he has proven that he deserves to be one of, if not the highest paid receiver in the league. When a talent like this comes around, you don’t let it slip away and haunt you for years like Randy Moss did the Cowboys after they passed on him in the draft all of those years ago. Also, it looks as though after showing he has the skills, speed and vision, Murray has finally figured out how to also keep himself healthy for an entire season. Now he can be considered a real star in this league, but his contract is also up, so Jerry will need to at the very least put the franchise tag on him.

This team finally has the right leaders to go along with the talented and mentally tough players needed to be considered contenders in this league for a long time. Now it’s just time for Jones to step up and do his part.
