The Detroit Lions had a tremendous season even though it had a tough ending. Next year, they will look to be even better and make a run at the Super Bowl. When it comes to the 2015 NFL season, it all starts with the draft. The Lions are picking 23rd overall and have a few holes they could look to fill. The move that makes the most sense would be drafting Florida State defensive tackle Eddie Goldman.

The biggest question for the Lions this offseason is whether or not they can re-sign all pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. If they can’t, then drafting a defensive tackle high will be paramount. Even if they do sign Suh, defensive tackle will still be a need for the team. As of right now, the only DT on the Lions’ roster under contract for next year is Caraun Reid. Reid has potential, but the Lions need a lot more than just the 2014 5th round pick.

Goldman has all the tools to be an elite DT.  At 6-foot-3 and more than 300 pounds, Goldman is a great athlete and already a dominant run stopper. He isn’t a great pass rusher yet, but he has shown flashes of being able to get to the QB and has plenty of room for improvement. He’s also as tough as they come and has good quickness off the ball.

Goldman is rated as the second or third best DT prospect by most draft experts, and there’s a very good chance he will be available at No. 23 when the Lions pick. He makes the most sense for Detroit regardless of what happens with Suh. Best case scenario for Detroit is they re-sign Suh, draft Goldman, and create the NFL’s most dominant defensive tackle tandem.
