It’s well known that the San Diego Chargers have one of the best passing attacks in the league (ranked No. 10 in 2014), but quarterback Philip Rivers needs a little more help from his guys on the offensive line.

The Chargers’ offensive line suffered a great deal of injuries in 2014, and it never had any kind of stability. Now, it’s time to shore up the line and build a strong foundation. The Chargers should consider Miami HurricanesEreck Flowers in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

After the regular season concluded, the Chargers’ offensive line ranked No. 31 in run blocking and No. 16 is pass blocking, according to Football Outsiders. In the beginning of the season, Rivers was playing so well that he and hid all of the flaws on the offensive line, but their weakness began to show over time. In 2014, The Chargers’ offensive line had five different centers and became the first team since 1970 to have that many different players at the position.

To deal with that many injuries, for any team, is a lot to handle, and I’m sure the Chargers are looking to avoid that next season. This is when the 6-foot-5, 324-pound Flowers comes in.

The Hurricanes tackle is a big body, with broad shoulders and the ability to match up well at the next level. Even though the Chargers look pretty solid at the tackle position with King Dunlap and D.J. Fluker, Flowers could play on the inside and use his size as an advantage.

Even though Flowers is a mammoth of a man, he is light on his feet and luckily for the Chargers, he is also solid run blocker. With the addition of Flowers on the offensive line and a healthy Ryan Mathews, the Chargers’ offense won’t need Rivers to carry them every single game.
