This last week, we were all intrigued about an Andrew Luck vs. Tom Brady AFC Conference Championship matchup.

Well, let’s just say that was a disappointment.

From start to finish, the New England Patriots dominated the Indianapolis Colts in every facet of the game. Whether it was Josh Cribbs muffing an early punt return, the Patriots’ offensive line dominating the Colts’ defensive line or offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels calling offensive tackle Nate Solders‘ number in the passing game, it’s evident what a lot of people were also saying this week: the Colts are just an average team and the Patriots are one of the best.

Lucks’ struggles today are a testament to how much work head coach Chuck Pagano has this offseason to put a team around him. Some of the blame does need to fall on Luck for throwing multiple interceptions and completing less than 50 percent of his passes, but not all of it.

Switching to the Patriots, what LeGarrette Blount did against the Colts’ defense (for the second consecutive season) is ridiculous. Rushing for 30 carries, 148 yards and three touchdowns, Blount is the key piece to closing the season out two weeks from now in Glendale, AZ.

With the win, Brady is heading to an NFL record sixth Super Bowl with head coach Bill Belichick, and their first since 2011. The Patriots will be matched up against the Seattle Seahawks‘ “Legion of Boom” defense that shut down Peyton Manning in last year’s Super Bowl. Let’s hope a Russell Wilson vs. Brady dual will actually live up to the hype. One of those Class of 2012 quarterbacks has to get him, right?
