It’s amazing how a quote can fit a situation even years after the original statement. In the second half of today’s NFC Championship bout, Richard Sherman of the Seattle Seahawks injured his elbow tackling James Starks down the sideline. The pain was so bad, he couldn’t even stretch out his left arm, instead running around like he had a cast on.

Don’t let that fool you though. According to Sherman, there is zero chance he will miss Super Bowl XLIX.

“We got tape for the warriors,” Sherman said. “I guarantee you in our next game, we will all be out there.”

He is referring to Earl Thomas there, who injured his shoulder on Sunday.

You’d be hard pressed to find a more gutsy performance than Sherman’s after his injury; Emmitt Smith’s separated shoulder game comes to mind. Sometimes adrenaline kicks in and you’re able to ignore the pain, but the guy couldn’t even extend his elbow and made what turned out to be a huge tackle in the 4th quarter.

Prior to Mason Crosby sending the game to OT, Aaron Rodgers hit Jordy Nelson across the middle on 3rd down with about a half a minute left. If Sherman doesn’t bring him down and force the field goal, Nelson could still be running, or at the very least he would have picked up the first down and given Rodgers a few shots to win it.

It’s also a testament to Sherman’s ability that he could play with one arm and still be targeted only once after his injury. He truly is the best corner in the game, and showed so much heart that even Green Bay Packers fans have to respect him.

Maybe.
