The NFL Pro Bowl is coming up on Sunday, Jan. 25, and the NFL has decided to hold the NFL Pro Bowl Draft for the second year in a row. Not only do fans not care about the pro bowl, they should care less about the draft.
The draft, being even less entertaining than the game itself, is filled with unenthusiastic players. The scene of the green room is a gathering of NFL players smiling awkwardly for the cameras, pretending like they care to win $50,000 on Sunday. They would rather be anywhere else in the world right now and the looks on their faces show just that.
With every uncomfortable interview, players are admitting to the fact that being in the green room is actually the most exciting part about this entire ordeal. The players have the chance to hang out with one another, play video and card games and receive top-of-the-line refreshments while they are at it.
“I’m actually enjoying the food and drink back here so hopefully I’m Mr. Irrelevant,” Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Clay Matthews expressed during his draft day interview with the NFL Network.
The NFL’s attempt to push a surge of energy and desire in the Pro Bowl is, once again, lost. The draft does nothing to garner excitement for the Pro Bowl aside from confirming the fact that the Pro Bowl is a burden to nearly everyone. Last season’s Pro Bowl still had a decline in ratings, even with adding the spectacle that is supposed to be the draft. It can be assumed that Pro Bowl ratings will drop once again this year. Until the Pro Bowl makes the changes that fans and players want to see, there will continue to be little to no interest. Adding the draft to the uninteresting Pro Bowl is just adding insult to injury at this point.
