The upcoming offseason is critical for the Washington Redskins as the team attempts to rebuild its roster. A major upgrade on the offensive line and defensive secondary should be a priority for the Redskins. With roughly $13 million in cap space, Washington will be able to spend on key players to address these needs. Here are five predictions for the Redskins during the free agency period.

5. Redskins Will Release DE Stephen Bowen, G Chris Chester

One of the first jobs for new GM Scot McCloughan will be cleaning up the mess he was handed by former GM Bruce Allen. Neither Stephen Bowen nor Chris Chester ever panned out for the Redskins, and they are expected to make .4 million and .5 million next season, respectively. Releasing both of these under-performers would clear up more room to add a key free agent.

4. Washington Will Re-Sign RB Roy Helu Jr., TE Niles Paul

Although the Redskins had a terrible season in 2014, there still is some talent left on this roster that can be built around. Roy Helu Jr. and Niles Paul both had breakout seasons and showed signs of promise for years to come. Each player offers a versatile skill set that can be utilized in Jay Gruden's offense.

3. Redskins Will Let LB Brian Orakpo Walk

Brian Orakpo was a major disappointment for Washington in 2014. He only registered 0.5 sacks in seven games before suffering a season-ending injury. Orakpo will be a free agent in the offseason who will likely be seeking a lucrative long-term deal. The Redskins would be reluctant to re-sign him due to his injury history, and could find a replacement for him in the NFL Draft.

2. Redskins Will Try To Sign G Mike Iupati or G James Carpenter

Washington's offensive line was horrendous last season, allowing 58 sacks on the year. Only the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars surrendered more in 2014. In order to fix the holes on the line, the Redskins should spend big money to sign San Francisco 49ers G Mike Iupati. At 6-foot-5, 331 pounds, he is a three-time Pro Bowler who will be 28 heading into next season. If that plan fails, then Washington should target Seattle Seahawks' James Carpenter.

1. Washington Will Sign CB Byron Maxwell

The Redskins' secondary has been porous for so long that it's time to finally do something about it. In his first season as a full-time starter in Seattle, Maxwell played in 13 games, accumulating two interceptions and 12 passes defended. He would slide in nicely opposite of promising rookie Bashaud Breeland and would allow DeAngelo Hall to move over to free safety, giving Washington a formidable pass defense.
