The New England Patriots don’t have to look very far for motivation to win Super Bowl XLIX. They have most of the country doubting them after “Deflate-Gate” and the rest of the country seemingly doubts them because of “Spygate.” They will no doubt be out to prove that they are superior to the rest of the NFL on Super Bowl Sunday in just under two weeks.
Given that fact, Seattle Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane said something he will almost certainly regret should his team lose. Ultimately, he called out Rob Gronkowski, the best offensive player on the Patriots not named Tom Brady. In what can only be described as sheer stupidity, Lane said, “I actually don’t think he’s that good, he’s OK. He does have a big body. But from what I’ve seen on tape, he doesn’t like you putting your hands on him. So if we put our hands on him and shake him up a little bit, he won’t catch that many balls.” Essentially in his own way, Lane is calling Gronkowski soft by saying what he did.
Now that his comments have been made public, there is no doubt that the Patriots will use them as fuel to get hyped up even more for the game than they already are. His comments are even more laughable given Gronk’s elite skillset and when you consider that many people probably have no clue who Lane even is. The Patriots may even decide to throw at him even more in an effort to burn him just to prove a point to him. Even if that doesn’t occur, Lane made a potentially fatal mistake adding fuel to Brady and company’s motivation for another Super Bowl victory.
