The following five teams showed promise throughout this season, but are due for a dose of harsh reality in 2015.

The Browns appeared to have things together at 7-4 before losing the final five games of the season. Brian Hoyer's quarterback play faded late in the year and opened the door for Johnny Football, who also played poorly. It appears that next season will be Manziel's turn to start, which could provide more disappointing results for Cleveland fans.

Although Rex Ryan promised that the Buffalo Bills would return to the postseason in his tenure as head coach, it won't happen in year one. Ryan will do wonders for the Buffalo defense, but has similar problems at quarterback to the ones he had in New York. With Kyle Orton retiring, the Bills must find a replacement other than E.J. Manuel.

The New Orleans Saints were one of the most disappointing teams in 2014, losing 10 games on the season. It was a down year for Drew Brees and co., which suggests he may be nearing the end of his prime. New Orleans looks like they might be in for another mediocre season next year.

The San Francisco 49ers have been on the doorstep of greatness, but have yet to break through. After the departure of head coach Jim Harbaugh and the rumors of increased tensions within the organization, its hard to image that San Fran returns to glory any time soon. Next year will either make or break quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

The Dallas Cowboys were arguably the biggest surprise team of the season, winning 12 games and reaching the playoffs. It seemed as if the stars had aligned for the Cowboys, as Tony Romo, DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant all had career seasons, yet Dallas still came up short. One has to wonder if they'll ever make it back, as key players become free agents and the competition in the NFC East improves.
